The demand for volunteers who can provide essential support during this crisis is rapidly increasing day to day in our region. So, in these uncertain times United Way of Eastern Maine and Tip Whip are teaming up to promote and reward volunteerism. Register, select your volunteer opportunity and start earning rewards! Each hour that you volunteer will be converted into an entry for our weekly drawing for an ever-changing array of local gift cards, incentives, product discounts and other merchandise. Volunteer Incentive Program – FAQ’s

What types of opportunities are available?

Immediate Volunteer opportunities include: Essential supplies delivery & support for the elderly population, prescription medication delivery, American Red Cross – Blood Donor Screeners, essential grocery delivery and food donation boxing at local food pantries. These opportunities are on-going and will change due to immediate need in the community.

When registering, volunteers will indicate whether they are interested in being recurring volunteers or ON-CALL. Recurring volunteers will select the agency and opportunity with which they would like to volunteer, while ON-CALL volunteers will sign up for a general emergency response volunteer opportunity and essentially be “on call” for one-time opportunities. Recurring volunteers will be managed by the organization they are working with, and ON-CALL volunteers will be managed by UWEM and loaned out to agencies as needed.

Do these opportunities comply with social distancing / Stay at Home Order / CDC Guidelines?

All volunteer opportunities support basic needs and are therefore considered essential functions. We pre-screen all opportunities to ensure that they are essential, and require all participating agencies to follow social distancing guidelines set forth by the CDC.

How will individuals be entered to win prizes?

After registering and selecting your volunteer opportunity you can then start earning entries into our incentive drawings. Each hour that you volunteer will be converted into an entry for our weekly drawing for an ever-changing array of local gift cards, incentives, product discounts and other merchandise. The more hours you volunteer the better your chances are to win. All incentive winners will be drawn at random.

Participants can win incentive prizes more than once and are not disqualified for multiple volunteer opportunities throughout the length of the program. You must register and record your service hours to be eligible to win. Individuals will be automatically entered for the weekly drawing once they record their hours for that week.

The recording of participant hours either on the VolunteerME website or through the Volunteer Get Connected smart phone app is your official entry. If you have been selected as an incentive winner you will be sent a notification email the following business week and your incentive prize will be mailed or sent digitally through email services.

How are background checks run?

Background checks are run through Safer Places Inc., and include State and Federal criminal record checks and driving record background checks. All volunteers will be background checked prior to beginning their service.

How will individuals register?

Individuals will register for either a specific recurring volunteer opportunity with a local agency, or for the “As Needed Volunteer” opportunity. How will Individuals track hours?

Individuals will track hours either online or through the Volunteer Get Connected mobile app. Please see our view our brief tutorial on how to log your volunteer hours with the smart phone app. Volunteers without internet access can ask their volunteer supervisor to email UWEM with the number of hours that the volunteer has completed each week or can call the United Way office to log their hours.

How will organizations register?

Organizations in need of recurring volunteers will register their opportunity on the COVID Relief VolunteerME Advanced Event. Please see the organization tutorial for details on how to do this. Organizations in need of one-time volunteers will complete the Volunteer Request form and email it to Meredith at mereditha@unitedwayem.org. If either of these things are a barrier to your organization, please reach out and we can review your specific situation.

What does it cost the requesting organization?

Participating in this program is free. The only investment is the time it takes to register on VolunteerME and upload the opportunity, approximately 15-30 minutes.
