Part Time Database Manager



REPORTS TO: VP, Resource Development & Communications

GENERAL SUMMARY: To maximize the use and efficiency of the CRM database (ANDAR) and ensure organizational data integrity. The Database Manager is responsible for managing the customer relationship and funded program data at United Way of Eastern Maine (UWEM) and assisting the staff with accessing data effectively.


  • Support finance, resource development, and Community Investment staff by writing custom reports
  • Serve as a reference/helpdesk for Database and associated software to staff
  • Provide training to new staff on CRM software
  • Ensure software is up to date and functioning properly
  • Serve as liaison with software vendor’s helpdesk for UWEM
  • Works with staff to maintain standards and security for all individuals using the database
  • Maintains and creates documentation for workflows, to facilitate staff use of database
  • Examine processes and workflows for efficiency improvements
  • Maintain web portal for CRM software for agency, donor, and volunteer access
  • Configure electronic pledging sites for Companies running online workplace campaigns
  • Assist finance department in automated bulk pledge data entry
  • Manages the “Super Users” staff group within UWEM, facilitating weekly/bi-weekly meetings

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Computer Science, Information technology or related field (relevant work experience can substitute)
  • Ability to tackle complex logical problems (report writing)
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate complex technical situations in plain language
  • Strong organization and time management
  • Expert knowledge of MS office suite (especially excel)
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities in a shifting environment
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to train and lead individuals and teams
  • Demonstrated experience designing and executing processes and workflows
  • Ability to analyze issues in long term and short term time lines

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working with Andar360 CRM (or another CRM software solution) a plus
  • Knowledge of one or more of the following languages: SQL, HTML/CSS, JavaScript
  • Prior experience with Database management, or RDBMS (MySQL, Microsoft SQL, Access)
  • Strong interpersonal and relationship building skills
  • Proven ability to manage complex responsibilities with little oversight
  • Knowledge of the United Way as an organization preferred

Community Impact VISTA

The United Way of Eastern Maine is currently accepting applications for an Americorps VISTA through the United Way Worldwide Economic Mobility AmeriCorps VISTA Project.   Our dynamic, talented, and dedicated team of professionals are passionate about moving our community forward and changing lives for the better!  At United Way of Eastern Maine, you will be at the forefront of combating poverty in our region while having the opportunity to build professional relationships with social service, non-profit, and corporate leaders in our community.

This position will work to support the Eastern Maine CA$H Coalition (EMCA$H) Initiative to build capacity through coordination, collaboration, and cooperation to improve the economic well-being and financial security of economically disadvantaged citizens living in Eastern Maine.   This will be achieved by supporting and expanding outreach and service delivery of free tax preparation and financial literacy coaching throughout our service area.  In addition, explore strategies for service delivery in a rural setting and develop a system of volunteer recruitment and training to expand the reach of existing and future EMCA$H efforts.

Position:  Community Impact VISTA

Location:  United Way of Eastern Maine, 700 Main Street, Suite 1, Bangor, Maine

Term of Service:  August/September 2017 – August/September 2018


  • Support UWEM and the Eastern Maine CA$H Coalition by coordinating and supervising the free tax prep program (Virtual VITA) in Washington County for low income individuals during income tax return season
  • Recruit and train tax prep volunteers, financial literacy volunteers, and other tax site volunteers
  • Assist in the coordination of Eastern Maine CA$H Coalition trainings, orientations, tax sites, and events
  • Develop and update financial resource guides and flyers as needed
  • Develop, update, and distribute marketing materials for UWEM Income Initiatives
  • Research best practices for existing and potential Community Impact projects and/or initiatives
  • Assist in the recruitment and training of volunteers
  • Facilitate and/or participate in ongoing assessment and evaluation of the project
  • Represent and promote UWEM and the Eastern Maine CA$H Coalition in the community
  • Work on special projects and assignments as needed
  • Support planning and implementation of UWEM events as needed


  • Experience and comfort serving clients from diverse backgrounds
  • Associate’s degree or equivalent experience
  • Ability to interact professionally with coworkers, key stakeholders, and clients
  • Comfort with technology (computers, software, internet platforms, digital media)
  • Self-motivated with high degree of flexibility, creativity, and independence
  • Ability to clearly and concisely communicate orally and in writing
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Effective public speaker
  • Dedication to the mission of AmeriCorps national service
  • Flexible schedule (some assignments will require weekend/evening work)
