March 2011
Dear Business Leader,
If you're reading this, you're interested in a rockstar opportunity to partner
with United Way this year. It’s the second annual KahBattle of the Bands
to benefit United Way. Last year’s inaugural event attracted a 300+ audience
made up primarily of youth and young adults.
The battle’s winning band will receive a spot on opening day of the 2011
KahBang Music and Art Festival and a professional recording session with
Maine Street Music. This event which will take to the stage in mid-July.
This unique event will help programs that promote improving education,
income, and health in Eastern Maine. In 2010, United Way funded 69
health and human service programs through 42 partner agencies.
United Way has also supported
community initiatives and services including:
- 2-1-1 Maine, a toll-free information and referral line
- Bornlearning.org, parenting resources to encourage learning every day
- The final year of Camp Bangor, a scholarship grant program available to grades 4,5, and 6 in the Bangor School System sponsored by the Libra Foundation
