What If My Child Does Not Qualify for Camp Bangor?
While the Camp Bangor Scholarship Program is open only to children enrolled in the Bangor Public School system in grades four, five and six, there are other potential resources that can provide assistance to families.
Below is a list of resources that may offer camp scholarships, reduction in tuition or other types of financial assistance. The Camp Bangor Program, although unfortunately not broad enough to cover all families Eastern Maine, may free up other scholarships offered by camps, organizations and the like. We encourage you to look into some of the following options.
LOW COST OR SLIDING FEE SCALE CAMPS:
Many camps offer affordable rates. Take a look through the 2009 Camp Directory (available in March) for more individual camp details.
CAMPERSHIPS:
Many camps offer some sort of scholarship or financial assistance. Contact any camp directly and ask about their financial assistance programs. DO THIS EARLY (February or March) however, since camperships are distributed quickly. In addition, some camps or organizations may offer discounted tuition rates based on ability or talent. Specialty camps, including sports, performing arts, visual arts, equestrian camps and others may offer scholarships based on ability and talent versus financial need.
RELIGIOUS INSTITUTIONS AND SERVICE CLUBS/ORGANIZATIONS:
Some churches or synagogues offer financial assistance or other types of fund raising possibilities. Those of you with family members involved with local chapters of civic organizations might find there are youth scholarships or other fund raising possibilities available. Such clubs/organizations include Lions club, Rotary Club, Masons, etc.
