The largest food drive of the year for many food banks across Eastern Maine. NALC is a spring food drive when our Postal Letter Carriers and Volunteers collect food donations from Eastern Maine residents' mailboxes.

In May of 2010, more than 96,000 pounds were collected for Eastern Maine. We're proud of this community effort which is a 6,000 pound increase over 2009.

A warm thank you to those involved including Bangor Savings Bank, Branch 391, local USPS offices, local pantries and hundreds of volunteers. It's important work to help those who are faced with hunger on a daily basis. It's estimated that 14% of Maine faces hunger; 20% of children under 18.

Across America, the drive produced a record 77.1 million pounds of food donations in the nation’s largest one-day effort to combat hunger. The food was delivered to local food banks, pantries and shelters to help needy families in all 50 states.
