What should I bring?

From January until April 15, trained volunteers are offering free tax preparation services to low to moderate income individuals throughout Eastern Maine. Trained volunteers will be in select libraries, town halls and agencies across the region helping people to get their taxes filed, maximize the refunds they receive, quickly and at no cost.

The Creating Assets Savings and Hope (CA$H) coalition in Eastern Maine is a group of more than 20 organizations. CA$H is working to ensure everyone in need in our region is able to get their taxes filed at no cost and can get the money mangement tools to meet their financial goals. CA$H hopes to increase the number of eligible low-income workers that receive the Earned Income Tax Credit of up to $5,666. Thousands of eligible households in Eastern Maine currently do not receive this credit.

With CA$H's FREE tax preparation and electronic tax filing, families can get their FULL tax refund — as much as $5,666 in refund monies — in as little as fourteen days with direct deposit.

Certified volunteers prepare both federal and state income tax returns and will assist clients in making sure they claim all the tax benefits they are eligible for. The free tax preparation service will be available to individuals earning less than $50,000/year.

United Way is a member of the coalition and working to promote the work of the volunteer tax preparers so more families file for the returns.

This year's funding for EMCA$H was made possible by the following sponsors: Annie E. Casey Foundation, United Way, Key Bank, Bank of America, and the Internal Revenue Service.
